Effects of biochar application on soil nitrogen transformation, microbial functional genes, enzyme activity, and plant nitrogen uptake: A meta‐analysis of field studies

چکیده

Biochar application can influence soil nitrogen (N) cycle through biological and abiotic processes. However, studies on comprehensive examination of the effects biochar microbially mediated N-cycling processes (N mineralization, nitrification, denitrification, fixation) N fate (i.e., plant uptake, N2O emission, leaching) are warranted. Therefore, aim this study was to examine transformation, microbial functional gene abundance, enzyme activity, uptake. To achieve objective study, a meta-analysis involving 131 peer-reviewed field experiments conducted. Results showed that significantly enhanced content, N2 fixation, uptake by 5.3%, 3.7%, 15.3%, 48.5%, 14.7%, 18.3%, respectively, but reduced emissions leaching 14.9% 10.9%, respectively. also increased abundance denitrifying/nitrifying genes (amoA, narG, nirS/nirK+S, nosZ), proportion fixation bacteria, N-acetyl-glucosaminidase activity 18.6%–87.6%. Soil content positively correlated with AOA-amoA emission relative (e.g., amoA, nirS/nirK) involved in production. Furthermore, long-term tended increase AOB-amoA nirK+S especially leaching. Overall, findings indicated accelerated under conditions, thereby enhancing availability productivity. may losses. future should be conducted effect underlying mechanisms.

Interaction of different irrigation strategies and soil textures on the nitrogen uptake of field grown potatoes

Nitrogen (N) uptake (kg ha-1) of field-grown potatoes was measured in 4.32 m2 lysimeters that were filled with coarse sand, loamy sand, and sandy loam and subjected to full (FI), deficit (DI), and partial root-zone drying (PRD) irrigation strategies. PRD and DI as water-saving irrigation treatments received 65% of FI after tuber bulking and lasted for six weeks until final harvest. Results show...

Effect of biochar on nitrogen retention in soil under corn plant inoculated with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi

Maintaining the levels of nitrogen in agricultural fields to ensure crop yield performance is challenging due to the complex dynamics of nitrogen transformation in soil. Nitrogen is mainly taken up by plant roots in the form of nitrate, but it is considered as an environmental pollutant that threatens human and animal health. Therefore, it is necessary to use adsorbent compounds to retain nitra...

Effects of nitrogen application rate, nitrogen synergist and biochar on nitrous oxide emissions from vegetable field in south China

Globally, vegetable fields are the primary source of greenhouse gas emissions. A closed-chamber method together with gas chromatography was used to measure the fluxes of nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions in typical vegetable fields planted with four vegetables sequentially over time in the same field: endive, lettuce, cabbage and sweet corn. Results showed that N2O fluxes occurred in pulses with th...

A Review of Biochar and Soil Nitrogen Dynamics

Interest in biochar stems from its potential agronomic benefits and carbon sequestration ability. Biochar application alters soil nitrogen (N) dynamics. This review establishes emerging trends and gaps in biochar-N research. Biochar adsorption of NO3, up to 0.6 mg g biochar, occurs at pyrolysis temperatures >600 °C with amounts adsorbed dependent on feedstock and NO3 concentration. Biochar NH4 ...
